Joseph asks…

International phone/sim card question?

I am going to London for 6 months in January. My contract with Verizon is ending right after I leave, luckily.

I’ve been wanting a phone with internet, planner, and email capabilities (like a blackberry or something). I want to use this ONE new phone while keeping the SAME phone number and be able to make calls in London and the east coast of the US without paying HUGE fees for ‘international calls.’ Some people say they just use different sim cards, but doesn’t that mean I would have to use a different number? Also, Verizon doesn’t even HAVE sim cards, so should I switch wireless providers?

Pete answers:

If you’re looking to use your cell phone in london verizon isn’t going to work. You should switch to att or tmobile. They both use sim cards so you can use them anywhere in the world. And about the same number, you would want to switch to either tmobile or att and ask them to port your number, but i would ask them about their international plans. They do offer them for london i just don’t know what it would cost. That way you could keep your number and then still be able to use it in london.
